Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) (coming soon)
I will soon be offering the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). A gentle, nervous-system-informed approach to feeling safer, calmer, and more connected
Are you often feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or on edge?
Do you find it hard to relax, connect with others, or feel settled in your body?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle, music-based listening therapy designed to support nervous system regulation. Developed by Dr Stephen Porges, based on Polyvagal Theory, SSP works with the pathways of the nervous system that are linked to safety, connection, and emotional regulation.
I offer SSP in Bath, Somerset, and online, as a standalone offering or integrated into our work together.
What is the Safe and Sound Protocol?
SSP uses specially filtered music, listened to through headphones, to gently stimulate the vagus nerve — the part of the nervous system that helps us feel safe, socially connected, and at ease.
Rather than talking through your experiences, SSP works from the “bottom up,” supporting the body to shift patterns of stress, hypervigilance, or shutdown over time.
This can create the conditions for:
- feeling more settled in your body
- reduced anxiety and overwhelm
- greater capacity for connection and relationship
- improved emotional regulation
Each experience is unique, and we move at a pace that feels supportive for your system.
How I Work with SSP
SSP is not something you do alone — it is a supported, relational process.
I guide you through the protocol in a way that is trauma-informed, gentle, and responsive to your nervous system. We track your experience together, adjusting the pace as needed.
Sessions may include:
- guided listening to the SSP music
- somatic awareness and grounding
- space to notice and integrate your experience
- optional integration with breathwork or therapeutic support
SSP can be offered:
- as a standalone series of sessions
- alongside Somatic Experiencing® or psychotherapy
- integrated with Conscious Connected Breathwork (where appropriate)
Who is SSP For?
SSP can be supportive if you are experiencing:
- anxiety or chronic stress
- feeling overwhelmed or easily triggered
- shutdown, numbness, or disconnection
- difficulty with relationships or feeling safe with others
- sensory sensitivity
It can also be helpful if you are already on a therapeutic path and feel your nervous system needs more support with regulation and safety.
Online SSP Sessions
SSP can be done both in-person in Bath, Somerset, and online from your home.
Online sessions are guided live, with support throughout, so you are not navigating the process alone.
All you need is:
- a stable internet connection
- headphones
- a quiet, comfortable space
A Gentle, Supported Process
This work is not about pushing or forcing change.
We move slowly, listening to your nervous system and allowing change to happen in its own time. Some people notice subtle shifts, others more pronounced changes — and for many, it is a gradual unfolding.
SSP can be a powerful support alongside therapy, breathwork, or as a starting point for reconnecting with a sense of safety in the body.
Working Together
I offer SSP sessions in Bath, Somerset, and online worldwide.
If you’re curious about whether this approach is right for you, you’re welcome to get in touch or book an initial session.
This is a space where you don’t have to do it alone.
